Gedling’s MP Tom Randall had the honour of introducing the owners of Deli Conti, Sue and Luciano Vendone, to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Minister for Food, Farming and Fisheries, in Number 10, last week.
Speaking after the Downing Street reception, Tom Randall MP said: “Netherfield based Deli Conti is a community food and farming champion.
“Luciano has been making pizzas for 40 years using the same method with no additives, such as enzymes, preservatives or improvers, mixed into the dough. Deli Conti's factory in Netherfield not only employs local people but it also produces and distributes pizza bases to pubs, food outlets and local schools across Nottinghamshire and the country.”
Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP said: “It was hugely enjoyable to meet so many people involved in putting world-class food on our tables and caring for our countryside at the 10 Downing Street farming reception, along with their local Conservative MPs.
"By coming together to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing our rural economy and fishing industry, we can ensure we do everything possible to support the sectors, bolstering this country’s food security while also protecting and enhancing our treasured natural heritage for the benefit of generations to come."
Minister of State for Food, Farming and Fisheries, Rt Hon Mark Spencer MP said: “Our food producers are crucial to keeping this country fed, so it was great to meet so many of those who work in the sector, and the Conservative MPs who represent them, at Downing Street. This Conservative Government is committed to backing British food and drink producers and working with them to help them thrive.”
