I first met Carlton residents to listen to their concerns about a planning application for a car wash, on land next to Inn For A Penny pub on Burton Road, back in June.
I’ve since been contacted by many residents and I passed on their objections to Gedling Borough Council, who are responsible for planning, to try to prevent this application from being passed by the Council’s Planning Committee.
I shared residents’ concerns that the car wash would increase traffic, on what is an already a heavily congested area, and water runoff from the car wash could damage wildlife along the Ouse Dyke. It’s also unneeded – there’s a similar car wash less than a hundred yards down the road.
I am therefore delighted that the application was refused on Wednesday. Like the residents of Carlton, I would now like to see the land developed into a greener community space and hope the land owners engage with the local community to do so.
