Gedling is getting in the Christmas spirit tonight, with lights being switched on in Netherfield and Gedling village. After shooting over from the train station after a week at Westminster, I enjoyed seeing the Gedling switch-on event this evening and I look forward to chatting with Carlton residents over the weekend.
I am glad to be back home in Gedling after a busy week in Parliament, where my work included:
Asking the Home Secretary to do more to prevent illegal migrants risking their lives entering the UK by crossing the Channel. These migrants should claim asylum in the first safe country, such as France, Germany or Belgium and the Nationality & Borders Bill, which the Government is delivering, will give the UK Government greater powers to tackle this problem, including processing migrants offshore.
Chatting with Carlton's Carlile Road residents and staff from Carlile House.
Hearing from Elizabeth Denham, Information Commissioner, on the operation of the FOI Clearing House during a meeting of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee.
Meeting the Prime Minister in Downing Street at a regular meeting of the 1922 Committee Executive.
Speaking in the Commons in favour of Liam Fox’s Down’s Syndrome Bill, which will improve life for those with Down’s.
Enjoy your weekend.
