Carlton resident Margaret Bowler is a community champion and Gedling’s Tom Randall MP had the honour of introducing her to the Prime Minister, in Number 10, yesterday!
Speaking after the Downing Street reception, Tom Randall MP said: “In 1985, Margaret’s husband and son were diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy and Margaret wanted to connect with another family with the condition for support. This led to her setting up Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group in 1989, which has a hub on Main Street in Gedling village.
“Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group now has a mailing list of over 1800 families, provides support over a helpline, sends out literature and invites families into their office. In addition to that, each year, Margaret organisers a huge conference where families across the country come together to hear from specialist medical professionals. I am looking forward to opening this year's conference in June.
“Thank you Margaret for all you do to support families across the country.”
